Welcome to harpitree!
Hello!
I'm Harpistina (Harpist Ina), your harp instructor and the founder of Harpitree. Our motto is simple: "Branching out the harpiness!" The harp is a magical and amazing instrument, yet it remains one of the most undiscovered. We're here to share our love for the harp and spread its joy with you!
My Harp Story
When I was about 10 years old, I begged my mom for a harp lesson. I still don't know what inspired me to learn the harp. Growing up in a small town in South Korea, there was no access to harps or harp tutors, so I had to put my dream on hold.
When I was 13, my family immigrated to New Zealand. At 15, I finally encountered the harp at a local music school that offered harp lessons, and my journey with this beautiful instrument began.
I fell in love with the harp and never stopped learning! Even though my passion was strong, I never imagined making a living as a musician. It was a daunting prospect. Until my late 20s, the harp was my serious hobby. I took regular lessons from top harpists in New Zealand, joined numerous semi-professional orchestras, and worked with professional music groups in my spare time.
Eventually, my passion for the harp grew so strong that I decided to focus on it full-time. I auditioned for the School of Music at the University of Auckland and enrolled in a Graduate Diploma (Post Graduate) study in Classical Performance.
Now, my long-time hobby has become my full-time job. I teach, sell, and spread harpiness every day with Kiwi harpists. I want to expand even more and share the joy of the harp with harpists like you around the world.
How Harpitree Started
In 2017, I learned from my mom's friend that two girls in my town were eager to learn the harp. Until then, I had never considered teaching. However, I thought it would be fun to teach young girls who were as passionate about the harp as I had been at their age. It didn't take long for me to realize that I had a passion for teaching! (Remarkably, one of the first students I ever taught is still with me today. She has made tremendous progress and is currently working on ABRSM Grade 8 in pedal harp).
This marked the beginning of 'Harpistina Studio,' which later evolved into 'Harpitree Music School,' now with two branches in Auckland: one in Central and one in the East where we teaching students as young as 5 years old to adult students.
In addition to teaching, Harpitree is New Zealand's leading harp distributor, representing a wide range of harps, including prestigious brands like Lyon and Healy.
Harpitree Online
While serving Kiwi harpists in New Zealand, I received numerous inquiries from all over the world regarding harp purchases and lessons. We decided to expand, spreading our "harpiness" to the world by offering online courses, Zoom lessons, and a digital products store that serves global harpists. We are thrilled to start our online journey and hope to spread our "harpiness" to a greater community.
Who This Is For
Harpitree is here for you, for someone like the younger version of myself at age 10, who didn't have access to lessons, harp-buying advice, sheet music, or harp music. Harpitree is here to serve anyone who wishes to learn the harp, whether as a hobby or something a bit more serious, from kids to adults. Whether you're a beginner or looking to deepen your skills, we're here to support your musical journey with love and harpiness.
